Covered California Subsidies 2027: Who May Qualify for Financial Help?

Covered California financial help is not one-size-fits-all. Eligibility depends on factors including household income, family size, access to other qualifying coverage, and current program rules. The right first step is to review your application rather than assume last year’s savings will stay the same.

What is new for 2027?

California expanded funding for its state subsidy program. Covered California says people with household income up to 200% of the federal poverty level may be eligible for state financial help in 2027. The program is intended to lower premiums for eligible households, but eligibility and the amount of help must be determined through the current application.

Who should check eligibility?

  • People buying coverage through Covered California.
  • Families whose income, household size, or employment changed.
  • Self-employed workers and contractors with variable income.
  • People who did not qualify for help in a prior year.

Premium help and reduced cost sharing are different

Premium financial help can reduce the amount paid each month. Eligible households may also have access to lower out-of-pocket costs through certain Silver plans. Compare both the premium and how the plan handles deductibles, copays, and prescriptions.

What to prepare

Bring a reasonable annual income estimate, household information, and details about employer coverage if available. Then compare the actual plans offered at your ZIP code. For income changes during the year, read our 2027 income-reporting guide; for the overall plan review, see Covered California 2027.
