FAQ
Frequently asked Medicare questions
Browse all Medicare FAQsWhen is my Initial Enrollment Period?
It generally begins three months before the month you turn 65, includes your birthday month, and ends three months after it. If your birthday is on the first day of a month, the timing shifts one month earlier.
Will Medicare enrollment happen automatically?
It generally happens automatically if you are already receiving Social Security or Railroad Retirement benefits. If you are not receiving those benefits, you will usually need to apply through Social Security.
Can I delay Part B while I keep employer coverage?
Sometimes. Coverage based on current employment may qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period, but employer size and the type of coverage matter. COBRA and retiree coverage generally do not count as current-employment coverage for this purpose.
Can you help me compare Medicare Advantage and Supplement plans?
Yes. We review how each path affects doctors, prescriptions, premiums, copays, travel, and yearly exposure so you can compare tradeoffs clearly.
Can I keep my doctors when I enroll in Medicare?
It depends on the coverage path. With Original Medicare, confirm that each provider accepts Medicare. With Medicare Advantage, confirm the exact plan network, medical group, referral rules, and hospital relationships.
Do I need Part D if I do not take prescriptions?
Many people still consider Part D unless they have other creditable drug coverage. Going without creditable coverage can lead to a late-enrollment penalty if drug coverage is added later.
